Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) paid a courtesy visit on the occasion of the 20^th Anniversary of China International Contractors Association (CHINCA) on Friday, 11^th April 2008. MBAM’s visit also coincided with the Conference of the Global Construction Summit 2008 held in Beijing from 9^th -14th April 2008 where 13 MBAM delegates will participate in the said summit. The Global Construction Summit 2008 which will see close to 450 senior executives from all over the world attending the conference is organised by CHINCA and will focus mainly on discussing key construction issues, explore opportunities and discuss best practices. MBAM will be sending 13 MBAM delegates to the said conference to build a strong network with key industry leaders in China.

CHINCA has a present membership of 1200 with business covering over 180 countries and region. CHINCA has been committed to pushing forward the development of CHINA’s international project contracting and attaching importance to cooperation with other international construction organizations. Since its founding in 1988, CHINCA has, by adhering to its principle of "Providing Coordination, Guidance, Consultation and Service” devoted itself to promote the development of international economic and technical cooperation, including international contracting and labor service. CHINCA member companies with strong capability and sound reputation have made remarkable achievements in the international construction markets. They have also gained rich experience and won high reputation in various fields.

MBAM hopes through the visit to strengthen ties   between both organizations, mutually beneficial further joint ventures, sharing and exchange of experience and best practices in construction can be explored between members of MBAM and CHINCA.  As an active player in the Malaysian construction industry, MBAM has always supported efforts to impart knowledge and improve understanding on relevant topics concerning the construction industry at an international level.

Mr Patrick Wong, President of MBAM who led the delegation of 27 members said, “MBAM is proud to be given the opportunity to speak during CHINCA’s 20^th Anniversary Celebrations and we hope   close relationship and collaboration between both organizations can be continued on a global scale. The global construction market will definitely apply international benchmarks and standards thus we see our strategic partnership with CHINCA crucial to ensure success. CHINCA has an impressive international presence and we hope through constant dialogue and various partnerships between members of both Associations. MBAM and CHINCA can complement each other to extend our credibility and promote more prominent and effective roles taken by our builders to have bilateral trade and economic cooperation.”

The Association continues to look forward to further sharing of expertise, especially in the field of fast construction methods and international exposure so that MBAM members can further notch their presence in third countries and create a positive impact together. MBAM members can also look forward to tap on the huge human capital in China and this will help MBAM members execute large projects worldwide on joint ventures with CHINCA members, especially when many MBAM members are going global and exporting construction services in line with the call by the Government for Malaysian builders to go global. In this light, the Association hopes the Malaysian Government can help grow and drive the export of construction services by providing more aids in terms of financing and grants for business feasibility studies to Malaysian contractors and builders.

CHINCA hosted a dinner for MBAM delegates as well as guided a tour for MBAM members for a study visit to to CCTV Building and several venues for the coming Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The visit to both sites provided an opportunity to enhance members’ knowledge on construction technology and management of the project. “We are very happy and fortunate that we are allowed to understand the intricate nature and complexity of the projects especially on projects related to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games as the venues are constructed with high quality, innovative design and within a very short time. These accomplishments will definitely serve as a monument for China contractors to be proud of in terms of design and implementation,” added Mr Patrick Wong, President of MBAM.
