Y.B. Mr Lim Hock Seng, Chairman of Penang State Exco for Public Works, Utilities and Transportation delivered the Keynote Address. The one day seminar with respected speakers from the industry was organized as part of MBAM’s continuing education programme with PMBBMDA. In the challenging world of construction, the market demands builders to be resourceful, innovative and to exercise professional management skills and technologically advanced construction methods. Thus, the need for knowledge, being updated and getting an understanding of construction issues especially on those related to law, contracts and risks are indeed vital. Topics covered in the Seminar are: Paper 1 – An Update on Construction Industry & MBAM’s Initiatives by Ms Loh Mei Ling, Chief Operating Officer Master Builders Association Malaysia Paper 2 – Construction Industry Payment & Adjudication Act (CIPAA) by Sr Lim Chong Fong, Partner Azman, Davidson & Co. Their assistance to MBAM and PMBBMDA to reach out to the industry with a common purpose to share knowledge is very much appreciated by both Associations. The seminar is a very good opportunity for all participants to clarify issues with our learned speakers especially in relation to Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication (CIPA) Act 2012 and Amendment to the Construction Industry Development Board, Malaysia Act 2010 (Act 520). With the changes brought about by these two Acts, contractors must be able to keep abreast to the changes and challenges they will face and we are sure that with the help of our speakers, attendees will gain a lot of knowledge with reference to their business practices. Contractors are constantly facing numerous contractual issues and problems, some of which are indeed a nightmare for the contracting parties. In the paper entitled "12 Common Contractual Nightmares Faced by Contractors Unraveled" some of these common issues and problems which have caused problems to contractors if not handled well will be explained and these include topics such as "Extension Of Time", "Variation", "Loss And Expense" and other general questions such as "What Constitutes Patent and Latent Defects ?"
